Coma is a state of mind where the person becomes unconscious due to an accident or an illness and this state of brain may continue for a day, a month or for several years. The person having this state of mind can’t be awakened even with great stimulation and no cure has been developed to recover a person from this state of mind referred to as coma. When a person is in he/she will not respond to any noise or sound or any activity. In coma, the person’s brain does function but at its lowest level of performance. The most common causes of can be:

1. Severe injury caused to the brain.
2. infections affecting the brain directly
3. brain stroke
4. A major accident or a major setback to mind.

Usually, a person is may recover within weeks but is a state which may continue for months or years. You might have watched in movies that a person in awakens right away and remembers everything by just watching here and there but that’s not true. In real life situation, a person after he/she recovers from tries to understand the situation around and slowly tries to feel the surroundings. After a few



weeks, they will start feeling better and will also remember their past.

A person in has to be provided with intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital and a close supervision is required. The person in has to be given fluids along with medicines and nutrients all the time so that his/her body remains healthy as the brain at this stage functions at the lowest level of performance and is unable perform well. Recovery from is not very easy. The person who has suffered from is not able to easily recover with the aftermaths of coma. For the successful recovery from there are many rehabilitation centers that can help a person recover from the aftermaths of coma. These aftermaths can be loss of memory or the lasting effect of brain injury. These rehabilitations centers are tailored to the specific need of every person and you will notice progress in person’s behavior and body after he/she has joined the rehabilitation center.
